Has anyone used Shur Stik Strippable Wallpaper Paste?
I am putting up a roll of paperbacked vinyl, medium weight, non-prepasted Laura Ashley wallpaper in my baby's room and haven't wallpapered before. We have plaster walls (1930's home). I found a product called Shur Stik that sells a strippable adhesive. Has anyone used this with success? Would you recommend going this route or the traditional paste way? Thank you.
Sur Stik makes an entire line of pastes. I would recommend using clay based or heavy duty clear. Strippable paste does not have as much tack ( stickiness ). Clay based is the best for adhesion. You will find that the seams will curl out with thinner pastes and will not roll flat like with heavier pastes. For best results, use a 1/4" napped paint roller to apply rather than a brush. This will give a uniform coat of paste.
A solid vinyl paper will be easy to strip when the time comes ( I assume that's why you are considering the strippable paste). The top layer will strip off dry, leaving the porous paper backing behind. This can easily be removed with wallpaper stripper and a putty knife.
Make sure you prime the walls with a primer suitable for wallpaper before hanging the paper.
